Smart Kimchi Making: Start at the Gangjeong Jeotgal Festival Sunset over the Geum River as seen from Oknyobong Peak in Gangyeong

This weekend, we recommend a fall travel destination in Ganggyeong, where you can experience modern historical culture and make kimchi with Ganggyeong Jeotgal, all set against the unique charm of the past and present.

On Ganggyeong Modern History and Culture Street, the 'Old Hanil Bank' stands out with its striking red brick exterior, preserving the appearance of Ganggyeong, once known as one of the three major markets. Behind Hanil Bank, a collection of elegant buildings reminiscent of the Enlightenment era are clustered together like a drama set.

Currently serving as the Ganggyeong History Museum, it exhibits the history, cultural assets, and modern heritage of Ganggyeong, captivating tourists as a representative photo spot where retro vibes harmonize with modern sensibilities.

In addition, modern architectural structures such as the 'Old Ganggyeong Labor Union' and the 'Old Yeonsudang Herbal Medicine Shop,' as well as Father Kim Dae-geon's first pastoral site and Ganggyeong Cathedral, which is designated as a Registered Cultural Heritage of Korea, all retain their original appearance.

Furthermore, you can fully enjoy views of the Geumgang River and the wide fields from Oknyobong in Ganggyeong, a place renowned as a 'sunset hotspot' and 'sunset attraction.'

Nonsan City, Chungnam Province, will be holding the Jeotgal Festival at the Ganggyeong Geumgang riverside area until the 20th.

This year's festival, under the theme 'Ganggyeong Jeotgal and Sangwol Sweet Potato: The Perfect Match,' will feature 60 side events across five categories, including things to see, eat, and enjoy.

Main programs include the Ganggyeong Jeotgal Kimchi-Making event, the Ganggyeong Battle Crew Competition, and the Bidangaram On-Gil program.

Especially with the price of kimchi cabbage expected to exceed 5,000 won per head this year, visitors to the festival can make 3kg of kimchi for just 15,000 won.

During the festival, Ganggyeong Jeotgal and Sangwol sweet potatoes can be purchased at a 20% discounted price.
