Booked on Special Threat Charges
A man who threatened citizens with scissors while walking around downtown Seoul was arrested by the police.
On the 16th, the YouTube channel 'Seoul Police' uploaded a video titled 'Man Threatening Citizens with Scissors, Joint Arrest by Citizens and Police.'
According to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident, on the evening of the 3rd of last month around 8 p.m., a man identified as Mr. A was staggering through an alley in Seoul holding scissors in his hand. He then came out into a busy restaurant area where many citizens were passing by. Approaching citizens dining outdoors, he suddenly threatened them by saying, "I will kill you." Afterward, he moved back into the alley.
Citizens who witnessed this scene reported it to the police and followed him. Mr. A seemed to sense someone was chasing him and suddenly threw the scissors onto the ground. After a citizen picked up the scissors, Mr. A struggled briefly before fleeing.
The police, who responded to the citizens' report, arrested Mr. A about 50 meters away while he was trying to escape. At the scene, Mr. A denied the charges and fiercely resisted by shouting and cursing. However, he was eventually booked on charges of special intimidation.
Special intimidation refers to threatening someone while carrying a dangerous object. Under current law, committing special intimidation can result in imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine of up to 10 million won.
Netizens who learned of the incident expressed various reactions such as, "If people like that roam the streets, accidents will definitely happen," "He should be tested for drugs as well," and "It's fortunate that no one was hurt."
