With public interest in author Han Kang exploding following the Nobel Prize win, and her major works selling out or being fully checked out, these programs were organized to provide citizens with an opportunity to learn about Han Kang and her key publications.

First, a special exhibition themed around author Han Kang is being held until the end of the year in the specialized materials room on the second floor of the library. Visitors can explore Han Kang and her literary world through her major works.

Additionally, the specialized materials room houses over 1,400 books, including award-winning works from prestigious domestic and international literary prizes such as the Nobel Prize, as well as steady sellers.

Furthermore, special book viewing is being conducted until the end of the year. For this purpose, among the approximately 13,700 citizen exchange books collected through the recent Happy Book Sharing project, only Han Kang’s works were selected and registered as temporary books.

Through the virtuous cycle of reading and sharing books, it is expected to promote a reading culture where citizens encourage one another to read together, while simultaneously sharing and celebrating the significance of the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Also, reading clubs supported by Busan Library will engage in activities where members read Han Kang’s books and share their interpretations and thoughts on the works.

As a first step, on the 17th, members of Oraenarsha from Orae Bookstore (Gangseo-gu) will read Han Kang’s book Do Not Say Goodbye and hold a discussion together.

Kang Eun-hee, director of Busan Library, said, “Through these programs, we hope many citizens will gain a deeper understanding of Han Kang’s literary world and, through this opportunity, broaden their knowledge of the literary worlds of great domestic and international authors.”
