Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 17th that two areas in the vicinity of Hwagok 1-dong and Hwagok 2-dong have been selected in this year’s ‘Human Town 2.0 Project’ contest.

The ‘Human Town 2.0 Project,’ led by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, supports individual construction such as new buildings and remodeling in old low-rise residential areas where redevelopment and reconstruction projects involving complete demolition are difficult. The target areas are over 20,000㎡ in size and have an old housing rate of over 50%.

The selected areas, Hwagok 1-dong 370-38 (51,700㎡) and Hwagok 2-dong 167-10 (62,300㎡), are representative old low-rise residential clusters in Gangseo-gu, where individual new construction or large-scale maintenance projects are difficult due to height restrictions and other factors.

With this selection, the district will receive up to 10 billion KRW per zone from the Seoul Metropolitan Government over three years (2026?2028) for infrastructure development projects. Through this, the district will promote residential environment improvement projects for local residents, including individual new construction and expansion of infrastructure and convenience facilities such as public parking lots and roads.

Additionally, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, expert consulting by field will be provided to building owners, and building regulations will be relaxed. Moreover, the ‘Moa Center (Village Management Office)’ will be operated to comprehensively provide housing management services such as home repairs, safety patrols, and unmanned parcel lockers.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “Two areas in the Hwagok-dong vicinity have been selected for the contest project aimed at improving the residential environment for residents living in old low-rise residential areas,” and added, “We will do our best together with the residents to ensure the successful implementation of this project.”

Meanwhile, the district is also making efforts to improve the residential environment by applying for the ‘New:Village Project’ promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
