US Georgia Tech K-GTSEC Signs MOU
Mayor Lee: "Will Strengthen Semiconductor Capabilities Through Cooperation"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is embarking on establishing a global network to strengthen the competitiveness of the semiconductor belt and foster talent.
On the 17th, Yongin City announced that on the 16th, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for international cooperation to establish a semiconductor global network with the Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Center (K-GTSEC) of Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

K-GTSEC is an institution established in June through cooperation between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Georgia Tech to create a base for Korea-US semiconductor technology cooperation. The agreement was signed non-face-to-face via a video conference between Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, and Yeo Woon-hong, Director of K-GTSEC.
According to the agreement, both organizations will cooperate to build a global industry-academia-government network to enhance the competitiveness of Yongin's semiconductor industry and collaborate on education and research activities to nurture semiconductor specialists. Additionally, the city plans to promote international exchange programs for students of the semiconductor Meister High School to be established in Yongin.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin said, "Talent development is the most important aspect in the semiconductor field," and added, "We are pleased to sign this agreement with K-GTSEC to strengthen semiconductor capabilities and nurture talent." Director Yeo responded, "Based on Georgia Tech’s excellent faculty and the center’s research resources, we will cooperate to advance the city’s semiconductor industry."
