Seven Final Sites Selected for '2025 Goyang Raon-gil Project' Incorporating Citizen Ideas
Goyang Mayor Donghwan Lee: "We Will Strengthen Citizen Communication Channels to Create a City That Changes Together with Citizens"
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, is checking the final project site of Goyang Raon-gil while looking at a map. Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 16th that it held a meeting with seven final project site proposers for the ‘2025 Goyang Raon-gil Maintenance Project.’
The meeting was organized to share the vision and goals of the Goyang Raon-gil Maintenance Project in order to create pedestrian paths that citizens can use more conveniently and safely.
On the day, the city explained the direction of the Goyang Raon-gil project for the next year and future plans to the final project site proposers.
The final selected project sites for the Goyang Raon-gil project are seven locations in total: △ Goyang-dong, Deogyang-gu (Moomin-ro) △ Hwajeong-dong (Hwajeong Cultural Street area) △ Jeongbalsan-dong, Ilsandong-gu (Yangji Village area) △ Baekseok 1-dong (7th and 8th block area) △ Gobong-dong (area around Byeokje Elementary School) △ Ilsan 3-dong, Ilsanseo-gu (Hugok Village area) △ Daehwa-dong (area in front of Hyundai Department Store).
The selected project sites will be developed into comfortable and safe pedestrian environments by applying measures such as △ installation of large sidewalk blocks △ lowering curbs to enhance walking convenience for vulnerable pedestrians △ expanding effective sidewalk width △ installing design patterns harmonized with the surrounding environment, according to the recently established ‘Goyang Special City Sidewalk Maintenance Guidelines.’
A citizen who attended the meeting said, “It is even more meaningful that the project site I directly proposed and presented was finally selected and that the project will be promoted next year. I look forward to seeing what kind of pedestrian attraction it will be reborn as.”
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Thanks to the voluntary participation of citizens in the contest, wonderful pedestrian attractions will be created in places where they are truly needed. We will continue to strengthen communication channels where citizens can directly participate and bring about change, and operate city administration based on citizen consensus.”
Meanwhile, ‘Goyang Raon-gil’ is a pedestrian attraction creation project in Goyang Special City, meaning ‘a path where you can walk joyfully.’ The site selection contest was held from August 14 to September 4, and the final announcement ceremony was held on the 30th of last month.
At the announcement ceremony, applicants directly explained the necessity of their projects for a total of 21 proposals, and seven project sites were finally selected in order of high scores through evaluations by recommended citizens from each district and related city departments.
