On the 15th, Dangjin City in Chungnam announced that more than 50 senior officials, including the Deputy Mayor, conducted an on-site visit to 'Clean Livestock Farms' within the city.
This field trip was organized to experience advanced livestock sites in Dangjin, such as exemplary cases of improved livestock environments and smart livestock ICT pilot complexes, and to suggest future policy directions for the city's livestock industry.
Daeju Farm in Sunseong-myeon, which was selected as an exemplary case of a clean livestock farm, raises 6,600 pigs and was previously a major source of civil complaints in Sunseong-myeon.
Starting in 2020, the farm implemented significant environmental improvements, including a liquid manure circulation system, modernization of livestock facilities, and installation of a central exhaust washing tower, completing facility upgrades by 2022.
Through the farm owner's dedicated efforts and participation in livestock environment improvement projects, the farm recorded zero civil complaints in 2023, was selected for on-site visits by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as an exemplary farm, hosted visits from the Dangjin Mayor, and promoted educational cases on livestock environment improvement for pig farmers. As a result, it transformed from a complaint-prone farm into an 'exemplary clean livestock farm.'
Following Daeju Farm, the group also visited 'Jayeoneuro Farm,' a specialized heifer farm operated by the Dangjin Dairy Cooperative, and 'Jayeongeudaero Farm,' a smart livestock ICT pilot complex.
'Jayeoneuro Farm,' established in 2019 as Korea's first and largest specialized heifer farm (with 1,500 dairy heifers), has reduced labor requirements and improved farm management through specialized consignment care for dairy heifers.
'Jayeongeudaero Farm,' a smart livestock ICT pilot complex (specializing in dairy cows) established in 2024, is emerging as a future-oriented model for advanced livestock farming in Dangjin City by providing a comfortable breeding environment, cutting-edge ICT facilities, and supporting the relocation of existing dairy farmers, thereby promoting animal welfare and regional public interest.
Furthermore, there are plans to expand into secondary dairy processing (branding) and tertiary industry service experiences and tourism (experience centers, practical training, etc.), aiming to develop a sixth industry-type livestock complex.
Jang Myunghwan, Head of the Livestock Support Division, stated, "This field trip to clean livestock farms was organized to improve the negative image of existing livestock farms and promote the development of sustainable livestock farms by experiencing clean livestock farms created through Dangjin City's various eco-friendly livestock policies."
He added, "We will continue to actively support the promotion of clean livestock farms that coexist with citizens and raise awareness of the importance of improving the livestock environment."
