A Taiwanese parenting influencer who proudly identified herself as a mother of five shocked the public after being accused of abusing her child to death.

According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 16th, Ms. Song, a woman from Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, was arrested by the police on charges of repeatedly abusing her two-year-old son over the course of a week, resulting in his death. The boy collapsed unconscious after showing vomiting symptoms following a beating by Ms. Song during a bath in June. Ms. Song transported the child to the hospital, but he was ultimately pronounced dead by medical staff.

An autopsy revealed 15 bruises on the boy’s body, seven of which were identified as contusions caused by a baton and high-heeled shoes. Additionally, skull fractures and signs of cerebral hemorrhage were confirmed. Prosecutors’ investigation found that Ms. Song began abusing the child about a week before his death because he did not eat on time and refused to wash. Surveillance cameras installed inside her home captured her criminal acts in full. The footage showed Ms. Song repeatedly assaulting the child by striking his head with sharp high-heeled shoes, pushing him against walls, and throwing him into the bathtub. Prosecutors charged her with child abuse and murder resulting from the abuse, demanding a severe sentence. According to relevant laws, Ms. Song could face a minimum prison term of 10 years.

Ms. Song was a parenting influencer with about 9,000 followers on social networking services (SNS). She shared daily life with her five children and parenting experiences, gaining popularity online. Married to a soldier, Ms. Song was known to spend most of her time caring for the children alone. The Kaohsiung Social Affairs Bureau stated that following her indictment, the remaining children were handed over to relatives, and regular visits will be conducted to monitor the children’s well-being.
