‘Han-China-Japan Local Government Exchange Meeting’ Held in Gwangju

Gwangju City announced on the 16th that it will host the "25th Korea-China-Japan Local Government Exchange Meeting" from the 21st to the 25th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, in collaboration with the Korea Council of Governors.


About 400 local government officials from Korea, China, and Japan will attend the exchange meeting, including Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju, Yoo Min-bong, Secretary General of the Korea Council of Governors, Yang Wanming, President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Yasuda Mitsuru, Chairman of the Japan Local Government Internationalization Association.


Under the theme "Strengthening Trust among Korea-China-Japan Local Governments to Solve Complex Issues," the exchange meeting will share various challenges faced by local governments and discuss solutions. Notably, Joo Hyung-hwan, Vice Chairman of the Low Birthrate and Aging Society Committee, will deliver a keynote speech on "Measures to Reverse the Low Birthrate Trend," and Mayor Kang Gi-jung will present on "Strengthening Trust among Korea-China-Japan Local Governments to Solve Complex Issues," exploring a future of mutual growth among the three countries. Additionally, each session will feature introductions and discussions on excellent policies related to ▲creating sustainable eco-friendly cities ▲revitalizing urban and citizen exchanges among Korea, China, and Japan ▲and smart cities.


Mayor Kang Gi-jung stated, "Through this Korea-China-Japan local government exchange meeting, we will externally promote the city brand value of inclusive city Gwangju and share the experiences that Gwangju has."


Meanwhile, the exchange meeting is an event held annually since 1999, rotating among the three countries, aimed at discovering and sharing excellent policies of local governments in Korea, China, and Japan and promoting friendship. This is the first time it is being held in Gwangju.
