Providing Cultural Space through Youth Culture Center Construction
Hosting Cultural Events for Workers
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation is creating 'industrial complexes filled with culture' through hosting cultural events for industrial complex workers, providing cultural lecture spaces near industrial complexes, and creating beautiful streets.
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on the 16th that it is creating an environment where industrial complex workers can enjoy culture in their daily lives by building 93 complex cultural centers, promoting 62 beautiful street projects, and remodeling 27 closed or suspended factories to introduce cultural elements into industrial complexes.
A representative example is the '2024 Gumi Cultural Industrial Complex Pilot Project' being conducted in collaboration with Gumi City at the Gumi National Industrial Complex. This project consists of ▲ Art Picnic, a leisure program for workers ▲ Sandan-Pub, which offers performances and food using bonded warehouses ▲ Sandan-Beam, which screens works by domestic and international media artists by turning the interior walls of bonded warehouses into screens ▲ Gumi Industrial Complex Festival, a cultural event for Gumi industrial complex workers and local residents. During the festival, street performances such as 'Gumi Industry-Street Art' and events like 'Gumi Industrial Complex Playground - KidZania in Gumi,' where workers' children experience culture, were also held.
In Changwon, cultural programs for workers at the Changwon National Industrial Complex are operated in collaboration with the Changwon Cultural Foundation and others. These include learning K-POP dance, worker bands, photography lessons, writing classes, and drawing. The Dongnam Market was remodeled in 2021 and transformed into the Changwon Complex Cultural Center, providing a coffee shop and cultural activity spaces for workers' convenience.
At the Namdong National Industrial Complex in Incheon, a media facade was applied to the exterior wall of the Yeongwon Corporation building, which produces electric water coolers and purifiers, improving the industrial complex's appearance. The media facade visually represents the carbonated water produced by the water purifier manufactured by Yeongwon Corporation, also helping to promote the company's products. Cha Yeon-gyu, deputy manager at Yeongwon Corporation, said, “Many overseas buyers visit the company, and being able to visually show the carbonated water produced by our products helps promote them.”
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to continuously expand spaces where cultural elements can be introduced into industrial complexes. Lee Sang-hoon, chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, “We will successfully promote the introduction of cultural elements into industrial complexes and transform them into spaces where young people want to come,” adding, “Through building complex cultural centers and beautiful street projects, we will create vessels that can contain culture in industrial complexes and attract cultural programs based on workers' needs to make industrial complexes places where culture is enjoyed.”
