Functional Ingredient for Hair Health Confirmed for Publication in SCI-Level Journal
Human Application Trials to Conclude in First Half of Next Year
Individual Recognition Ingredient Undergoing MFDS Approval Process
Frombio, a company specializing in health functional foods, announced on the 16th that it has confirmed the efficacy of improving hair health through a complex of mastic gum powder and peppermint extract (mastic gum complex) by conducting studies on HDFPC (human dermal papilla cells) and animal experiments, demonstrating the promotion of hair growth and health enhancement.
The paper on functional ingredients for hair health has been recognized for its academic value and is scheduled to be published in an SCI (Science Citation Index) level journal in the first half of next year. SCI-level papers are published in journals highly regarded in the field of science and technology, and this is seen as a reaffirmation of Frombio's research and development capabilities.
The study showed that the mastic gum complex promoted the proliferation of human dermal papilla cells and increased the expression of hair growth stimulators such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and beta-catenin (β-catenin). Antioxidant effects and inhibition of inflammatory cytokines were also confirmed. In animal experiments, the hair growth score increased, the proportion of hair in the anagen phase rose, and the gloss and thickness of hair improved.
A human application test on the functional efficacy for hair health is currently underway with 100 adult men and women with hair damage, and participant recruitment has been completed. After the completion of the human application test in the first half of next year, Frombio plans to proceed with the approval process from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for individual recognition of the ingredient with the functionality of “helping to improve hair condition (gloss and elasticity),” and subsequently launch a health functional food for hair health improvement.
Shim Tae-jin, CEO of Frombio, stated, "We will continue to develop individually recognized ingredients through ongoing research and development and follow up with the launch of individually recognized health functional foods." He added, "In addition to hair health, we are continuing research and development on various individually recognized ingredients such as body fat reduction and height growth."
