National Assembly Planning and Finance Committee National Audit
Kang Minsu, Commissioner of the National Tax Service (NTS), stated on the 16th, "We are making further efforts to warmly embrace the public and taxpayers through tax support to back the economic recovery and welfare tax administration for vulnerable groups."
On the same day, Commissioner Kang made these remarks in his opening address at the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee's audit of the NTS.
The NTS is focusing on ▲ efforts to secure revenue budgets through meticulous tax revenue management ▲ warm tax administration that supports taxpayers in difficulty ▲ rational tax administration that supports sincere taxpayers ▲ fair tax administration that realizes tax justice ▲ scientific tax administration that innovates the entire process from filing to verification ▲ creating a good workplace that cares for employees.
According to the NTS, the cumulative tax revenue performance as of August this year was 227.1 trillion won, a decrease of 9.3 trillion won compared to the previous year. The progress rate was 63.6%, down 6.8 percentage points from the previous year. Commissioner Kang said, "Despite an increase in value-added tax (7.1 trillion won) due to increased consumption, corporate tax (-16.8 trillion won) and others declined due to decreased corporate performance last year," adding, "We will closely monitor factors affecting tax revenue such as economic conditions and asset market trends and meticulously manage monthly tax revenue status."
The NTS is promoting the creation of a friendly tax environment that lowers the threshold for national tax administration and tax support to spread and re-boost the economic recovery. To this end, the 'National Tax Filing Guidance Center,' where all desired services can be received in one place without visiting multiple departments within the tax office, is being continuously expanded. Comprehensive support is also being provided, such as extending payment deadlines and easing tax audit burdens for taxpayers in special disaster areas and businesses affected by 'Timf.'
Commissioner Kang also emphasized fair and strict tax audits. He said, "While maintaining the number of audits at the usual level, necessary tax audits will be conducted strictly and timely to fulfill the primary role of responding to tax evasion," stressing, "We will focus tax audit capabilities on unfair, livelihood-infringing, offshore, new types of tax evasion, and transaction order-disrupting acts that threaten free market competition."
The NTS plans to strengthen scientific tax audits by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) technology in tax evasion analysis and detection, following innovations in taxpayer services such as intelligent Hometax. To this end, personalized services differentiated by type and timing will be provided through the establishment of intelligent Hometax, supporting taxpayers to file on their own. AI national tax consultation will be expanded to major tax items and piloted for tax office inquiry calls, providing 24-hour consultation services even during nights and holidays.
Commissioner Kang said, "The NTS is doing its best in its primary duties of securing national resources and realizing fair taxation while striving for tax support and welfare tax administration," adding, "We will humbly accept the valuable comments from the committee members through the audit and faithfully reflect them in tax administration to make this an opportunity for further development of national tax administration."
