"Autumn is the Festival Prime Time"
Recycling Experience, Baduk Tournament, Resident Singing Contest, and More
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 16th that village festivals will be held in 15 neighborhoods across Gangseo-gu from the 19th of this month until the 11th of next month.
The neighborhood village festivals are local festivals planned and participated in directly by residents throughout the entire process. They highlight the unique characteristics of each neighborhood and serve as a place for residents with various talents and skills to gather and enjoy together, fostering community harmony.
The festivals will begin on the 19th in seven neighborhoods including Yeomchang-dong, followed by five neighborhoods such as Hwagok 2-dong from the 23rd to the 26th, and three neighborhoods including Hwagok 3-dong from November 2nd to 11th, totaling 15 locations, each showcasing a different atmosphere.
The ‘Resident One Heart Festival’ held at Yeomgyeong Middle School playground in Yeomchang-dong will feature presentations from community center programs and a cheerful sports day, along with experience booths, food stalls, and a direct transaction market. The ‘Recycling Festival’ in Deungchon 1-dong, held at Maehwa Neighborhood Park, offers diverse environmentally conscious craft experiences such as making keyrings from waste materials, succulent pots using plastic containers, and solar-cooked eggs, fitting the festival’s recycling theme.
The ‘Deungmarugol One Heart Festival’ in Deungchon 2-dong will welcome residents at Baekseok Village Yard Park for the first time in five years. A sharing event will also be held to support neighbors in need using festival proceeds and sponsorship funds.
In Ujangsan-dong, a friendly Go tournament for residents will take place. The tournament, held at the outdoor music hall in Ujangsan Neighborhood Park, will be conducted in a knockout format by the Gangseo Go Association. On the 26th, Ujangsan-dong will also host the ‘Goodbye Trash’ challenge along with a flea market where residents can share unused items at Hwagok 3 District Children’s Park 1.
Various cultural performances will be held at Balsan Neighborhood Park in Balsan 1-dong. These include lively traditional Korean music performances, exciting Nanta drumming, dance club shows, and invited singer performances. The ‘17th Songjeong Hanmadang Festival’ held in front of the Gonghang-dong Community Center features family-oriented events. Family talent shows and quiz contests for families of three or more will compete based on communication and harmony within the family, showcasing their talents and wisdom. The ‘Banghwa Ssamji Village Happiness Sharing Festival’ at Ssamji Children’s Park in Banghwa 1-dong will include various performances and a scholarship award ceremony for exemplary youth.
On the 23rd, an exhibition of community center program works will be held on the second floor library of the Hwagok 2-dong Community Center. On the 26th, festivals will be held in four neighborhoods: Hwagok 4-dong, Hwagok 6-dong, Banghwa 2-dong, and Gayang 3-dong.
The ‘Hwa4han Resident Festival’ held in front of the Hwagok 4-dong Community Center will feature presentations from community center programs and a resident singing contest, along with invited singer performances and a Taekwondo demonstration. A sister city direct transaction market will also be operated.
The ‘Yeok Village Festival’ in Hwagok 6-dong, held around the Mukja Alley area in Gangseo-gu Office, will close off about a 100-meter section of Mukja Alley during the festival period and operate invited singer performances, resident singing contests, various experience booths, and diverse food stalls.
The ‘First Neighborhood Under the Sky Festival’ in Banghwa 2-dong will be held at Saessak Children’s Traffic Park, featuring an exhibition of community center programs and a resident singing contest. The ‘Bitgoul Cultural Festival’ in Gayang 3-dong, held for the first time this year, will take place at Gyeongseo Middle School.
On November 2nd, the ‘Harmony Cultural Festival’ will be held in Hwagok 3-dong, and the ‘Deoburi Village Festival’ in Hwagok 8-dong. On the 11th, the ‘Big Neighborhood Small Concert’ in Hwagok 1-dong will be held at Gangseo Artium, featuring vocal, chamber music, dance, and invited singer performances.
District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “Village festivals filled with warmth will be held throughout Gangseo-gu as residents prepare with passion,” adding, “I hope this will be a time for neighbors to feel the spirit of the village together and create happy memories.”
