The team gained attention by presenting 'PROS CXR: OSTEO,' a solution that uses artificial intelligence to screen high-risk groups for osteoporosis through chest X-ray images.

This solution analyzes chest X-ray images with AI to detect osteoporosis patients without specific symptoms at an early stage. It is expected to advance the timing of osteoporosis treatment, prevent fatal osteoporotic fractures in old age, and improve patients' quality of life.

The 'Digital Healthcare Challenge' is a competition that discovers digital solutions based on Korean medical data, verifies them through UCLA medical data, and supports their entry into the global market. This is the second competition, and Promedius received high evaluations in terms of medical market impact, innovation, and verifiability.

The winning team, Promedius, will begin validating the 'PROS CXR: OSTEO' technology using data from UCLA Medical Center. Depending on the validation results, clinical trials in the United States and FDA approval procedures will also be discussed.

Bae Sung-chul, Vice President for Academic Affairs at UNIST, said, “Although many innovative digital healthcare solutions were submitted to this competition, Promedius’s ‘PROS CXR: OSTEO’ demonstrated great potential in the global market,” adding, “UNIST and UCLA will continue to strive for the development of such excellent medical technologies and their advancement into the global market.”

Bae Hyun-jin, Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) of Promedius, stated, “Winning the Digital Healthcare Challenge recognized our technological capabilities and growth potential, and we gained an opportunity for additional validation through UCLA data,” expressing the ambition, “We will strengthen clinical evidence by leveraging the global research network and expand Promedius’s AI technology into the worldwide medical market.”

UNIST and UCLA, together with the Korea International Trade Association (Chairman Yoon Jin-sik), have launched the third competition, the ‘2024+ Digital Healthcare Challenge.’ Applications are open until October 20, and the event was organized to broaden the base of participating companies by utilizing the Korea International Trade Association’s startup global growth support network.

Detailed information about the competition can be found on the official website.

The competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, LG Uplus, and the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
