Resignation Statement of Mayor Moon Heon-il of Guro District
Hello, this is Moon Heon-il.
I hereby announce my intention to step down from the mayoral position as of today.
I am deeply sorry and apologetic for not being able to keep the promise I made to the 440,000 residents of Guro District who trusted me and entrusted me with the district administration. I also express my regret to the public officials who have worked devotedly alongside me.
Recently, the court made a final ruling that there is a business connection between the company in which I was a shareholder and the duties of the mayor. This court decision is very disappointing and heartbreaking for me, who has carried out district administration impartially and fairly without personal interest.
Even at this moment, I feel deeply sorry and regretful for not being able to complete my term, but I have decided to resign voluntarily. I kindly ask you to understand my sincere feelings.
The past two years and three months leading Guro District have been the most passionate and rewarding time in my life so far.
Looking back, none of it was an easy process, and there were regrets, but I did my best with the sole determination to change Guro District.
During this process, many people helped me. We worked together, rejoiced together, and created meaningful records with sweat and tears, and thanks to that, I believe Guro District has advanced one step further. I am grateful for the support I have received.
Although I am stepping down from the mayoral position, I will continue to support the bright future of Guro District. I deeply appreciate the support and love I have received so far, and I will continue to do my best, even if only a little, to contribute to the development of Guro District.
Thank you.
October 16, 2024.
