Anabetic Semi, a Semiconductor Fabless Company for BMS, Successfully Secures First VC Investment

Global battery management system (BMS) startup Anabatic Semi secured investment from Smilegate Investment just six months after its founding.

According to the venture capital (VC) industry on the 15th, Anabatic Semi, established in June, recently received Series A funding from Smilegate Investment. Anabatic Semi has secured analog semiconductor device (AFE) technology that inspects and coordinates battery cell status, and plans to evolve into a comprehensive BMS company that manages the safety, lifespan, and performance of entire battery packs in optimal condition.

Founder and CEO Jeong Se-woong led the development of the mobile AP (Application Processor) Exynos at Samsung Electronics, localizing the mobile AP market that was once monopolized by global companies. Later, he founded Anabatic Semi with senior leaders who oversaw the BMS commercialization while managing Samsung SDI’s medium and large battery division. Through this, they have also established a network to expand as a business-to-business (B2B) company in the future.

CEO Jeong said, “BMS is a very important function to prevent battery overheating accidents and to improve efficiency and performance,” adding, “Since the core component supply of BMS is oligopolized by some manufacturers, there is great market demand for various products.” He also explained, “The name Anabatic, which means ‘rising airflow’ in the dictionary, refers to integrated circuits (ICs) that process analog signals of batteries. As the name suggests, we will become a K-startup that injects momentum into the global secondary battery market.”

Baek In-su, Chief Fund Manager (Executive Director) of Smilegate Innovation Growth Fund, which participated in this Series A, said, “With the trend of global carbon neutrality, front industries such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems (ESS) will continue to grow, and BMS is inevitably a growing field,” adding, “We plan to support Anabatic Semi’s excellent capabilities to rapidly unfold in this opportunity-rich market.”
