Yangju Mayor Kang Su-hyun Proposes Separate Establishment of Integrated Education Support Office to Gyeonggi Provincial Council

Yangju Mayor Kang Su-hyun Proposes Separate Establishment of Integrated Education Support Office to Gyeonggi Provincial Council Yang Soo-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Council's Education Administration Committee on the 15th to request support for major educational issues, including the separation and establishment of an integrated education support office.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Safety Education Center and other educational sites on the 15th to meet with the Gyeonggi Provincial Council's Education Administration Committee (Chair Lee Ae-hyung) and requested support for major educational issues such as the separation and establishment of an integrated education support office.

The visit by the Gyeonggi Provincial Council's Education Administration Committee to Yangju City was arranged to directly identify key issues on-site for this year's administrative audit and next year's main budget review.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun personally met with attending committee members, including Chair Lee Ae-hyung (People Power Party, Suwon City 10), Vice Chair Jang Han-byul (Democratic Party, Suwon City 4), Member Moon Seung-ho (Democratic Party, Seongnam City 1), and Member Lee Seo-young (People Power Party, proportional representation), to explain the necessity of separating and establishing an integrated education support office.

Mayor Kang stated, “Yangju City is experiencing rapid population growth, ranking first nationwide in population growth rate and third in birth rate. To actively respond to the increasing educational demand due to the rise in school-age population and to ensure that our children, who are our future, receive education in a better environment, the separation and establishment of an integrated education support office must be realized.”

Chair Lee Ae-hyung said, “I deeply empathize with the necessity of separating and establishing an integrated education support office actively promoted by Yangju City. The Gyeonggi Provincial Council will also actively cooperate in the development of education in Yangju City through positive review and support.”

Meanwhile, integrated education support offices that oversee two or more cities, counties, or autonomous districts, including the Dongducheon-Yangju Education Support Office, number six in Gyeonggi Province and 37 nationwide. Recently, movements to establish legal grounds for the separation and establishment of integrated education support offices have been gaining momentum, such as the Ministry of Education's announced “Plan for Institutional Improvement to Strengthen School Site Support by Education Support Offices” and the amendment to the Education Autonomy Act proposed by National Assembly member Jeong Seong-ho.
