Yang Soo-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, is smiling brightly while shaking hands with elderly people at the '28th Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony' held on the 14th. Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 15th that it held the '28th Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony' on the 14th at the Culture and Arts Center, hosted by the Yangju Branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association.
The event was attended by about 1,500 people, including key guests such as Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju, Yoon Chang-chul, Chairman of the Yangju City Council, Provincial Assemblyman Kim Min-ho, as well as senior citizens and related personnel, brightening the occasion.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of the entrance of the flag bearers from 11 eup, myeon, and dong districts, reading of the senior citizens' pledge, awards for meritorious persons, commemorative speeches, and congratulatory remarks from guests.
In particular, during the awards for meritorious persons, 56 senior citizens who contributed to the promotion of senior welfare received commendations from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Mayor of Yangju, Chairman of the Yangju City Council, and members of the National Assembly, adding significance to the ceremony.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju said, “We consider the happiness and welfare of senior citizens as the top priority of city administration, and all public officials are doing their best. We plan to actively promote the revitalization of senior universities, expansion of senior job projects, and modernization of senior centers.”
Meanwhile, 'Senior Citizens' Day' is designated and observed annually on October 2nd to express gratitude for the hard work of senior citizens who have played a pivotal role in society, to promote the spirit of respect for the elderly, and to raise social interest and respect for senior citizens.
