Yeoju City Completes Nightscape Development Project Along Namhangang River

Warm Nightscape with Flowing Light Created Around Yeoju Bridge and Ohhak-dong Walkable Streets

Yeoju City Completes Nightscape Development Project Along Namhangang River Yeoju City has completed the project for the Ohak-dong Walkable Street area and the Yeoju Bridge nightscape.

Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 15th that it has completed the nighttime landscape project around the Ohhak-dong Walkable Road area and Yeoju Bridge.

This project was selected last year in Gyeonggi Province's 'Happy Nightscape Creation with Light' contest and received 150 million KRW in provincial funding. With a total budget of 500 million KRW, the 'Namhangang Riverside Night Walking Tour Creation Project' was implemented. The target areas included the piers of Yeoju Bridge and a section of the walking trail around Ohhak-dong Walkable Road (from Yeoju Bridge to Ohhak-dong Administrative Welfare Center), where nighttime landscape lighting was installed. The project is now complete and operates from sunset until 11 PM.

The project aimed to create a bright and pleasant riverside walking trail with warm lighting effects in areas frequently used by residents. It also sought to add rhythm to the otherwise monotonous path by installing some decorative lighting so that people can enjoy and view the natural scenery of the Namhangang River both day and night.

Additionally, the previously dark Hangul Park located midway along the Walkable Road was transformed into a photo zone by projecting media lighting with gobos. The piers of Yeoju Bridge were designed to symbolize Yeoju taking flight from the Namhangang River, expressed in the form of 'flapping wings,' with lighting displays installed to operate for 10 minutes every hour, allowing visitors to enjoy a beautiful night view.

Kim Sang-hee, head of the Architecture Division, said, “Ohhak-dong Walkable Road is a place with frequent nighttime traffic, and the response from citizens taking walks has been very positive. Next year, we plan to create an upgraded nighttime landscape for the remaining section of the Walkable Road (from Ohhak-dong Administrative Welfare Center to Beommu Intersection). We will continue to make efforts to create beautiful scenery both day and night.”
