The Pocheon Cultural Tourism Foundation and the Kim Kwang-woo Museum Construction Promotion Committee announced on the 15th that they will hold an "Expert Forum for the Opening of the Kim Kwang-woo Museum" at 3 p.m. on the 16th in the Cheongseong Hall of the Pocheon Women's Center.
The forum was organized to highlight the artistic world of the world-renowned sculptor Kim Kwang-woo, who was born in Pocheon, and to discuss plans for the opening of the museum centered on his works. In-depth discussions on the study of sculptor Kim Kwang-woo's artistic world, museum operation plans, and cultural content strategies are scheduled, aiming to establish a concrete vision for the museum to become a cultural hub in the local community.
The forum will begin with an opening address by Lee Jung-hyo, CEO of the Pocheon Cultural Tourism Foundation, and a welcoming speech by Baek Young-hyun, mayor of Pocheon. It will proceed with congratulatory remarks and commemorative photo sessions. Additionally, after each presentation, there will be a Q&A and discussion session led by Lee Jae-eon, the chairperson.
In the first presentation, Yoon Jin-seop, former vice president of the International Association of Art Critics, will present his research on the artistic world of sculptor Kim Kwang-woo.
Presenter Yoon Jin-seop has served as the general director of the 3rd Seoul International Media Art Biennale and is recognized as an authority in criticism and planning in the Korean art world. He plans to explore the artistic value and originality of Kim Kwang-woo's works and reexamine his achievements as a sculptor.
The second presentation will be given by Kim Eun-young, former director of the Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art, who will propose operational plans for the museum. Based on her practical experience at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Kim Eun-young will suggest sustainable operational models and strategies for the Kim Kwang-woo Museum.
The third presentation will be delivered by Kim Chan-dong, professor at Hongik University, who will present cultural content strategies utilizing Kim Kwang-woo's works. Drawing on his extensive experience at various art institutions such as the Gwangju Biennale and Arko Art Center, Professor Kim plans to concretize ways for the Kim Kwang-woo Museum to develop as a content hub encompassing both the local community and the art world.
The chairperson leading the free discussion will be art critic Lee Jae-eon of the Kim Kwang-woo Museum Construction Promotion Committee. Critic Lee studied aesthetics at Kangwon National University and Hongik University. Based on his experience directing numerous art events, he will facilitate active communication between presenters and attendees during the forum.
Lee Jung-hyo, CEO of the Pocheon Cultural Tourism Foundation, said, "We hope the Kim Kwang-woo Museum will inspire pride among Pocheon citizens and become a cultural space that deeply moves visitors to Pocheon Art Valley. Based on the discussions and ideas derived from the forum, we will further elevate the region's artistic status and lay the foundation for Pocheon Art Valley and the Kim Kwang-woo Museum to become cultural centers of the local community."
Meanwhile, the Kim Kwang-woo Museum, being established in Pocheon Art Valley, is scheduled to hold its opening ceremony on the 31st and officially open from November 1.
