A resident was caught practicing putting by laying a golf mat on a walkway in an apartment complex in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, causing public disapproval.
On the 14th, JTBC's 'Incident Room' aired a story from informant A, who witnessed this scene at an apartment in Mokpo. In the video released by A, a long green golf mat is laid out on the walkway at the apartment entrance. On this mat, a man can be seen diligently hitting balls and practicing putting.
A said, "I discovered this scene while preparing for work on the 11th," adding, "It was during the busy time when many residents were going to work or school, and although many gave him looks, the man's golf practice continued for about an hour." He continued, "I have seen the man practicing golf on the walkway a couple of times before. No one pointed it out or stopped him, but seeing him practice again this time was so absurd that I decided to report it. I hope everyone can be considerate and careful in shared living spaces."
Netizens who saw the story responded with comments such as, "Just holding a golf club is very intimidating," "Please stop practicing golf inside the complex," "Why is he doing that right in the middle when he could practice in a corner?" "He should just do it at his own home," "What will the children learn from this?" "Doing that during rush hour is really infuriating," and "An hour? That's impressive, really."
Practicing golf in public places is not clearly punishable under current laws, but it can be penalized under Article 3 of the Minor Offenses Act for 'dangerous acts such as throwing objects.' Additionally, if golf balls hit during swings are left in public places, it is considered littering and is also subject to punishment. In fact, in 2016 in Andong, Gyeongbuk, a man in his 60s who habitually practiced golf by hitting balls toward the river on the grass of the Nakdong River embankment was fined 100,000 won by summary judgment.
