"Thought I Was Going to Die," "Help Me" Messages
Reported to Police Three Times but No Arrest
Stalked for at Least Six Months
A man who killed his ex-girlfriend and attempted to jump to his death was arrested by the police, and it has been revealed that the victim woman had been suffering from stalking for several months.
According to an MBC report on the 14th, a man in his 30s named Kim, who killed his ex-girlfriend in Busan last September, was arrested by the police, and it was revealed that the victim woman had been distressed due to stalking.
In March, around 5 a.m., Kim arrived at the officetel where the victim woman lived and incessantly pressed the doorbell and knocked on the door. The victim, who was at home at the time, sent a text message to her mother saying, "I haven't slept and it's been three hours," and "Please save me." However, she was afraid of Kim's retaliation and did not report to the police. In fact, among the messages sent to her mother, there was a message that said, "If I call the police, there will be retaliation, right?" She also expressed fear by sending messages such as "Mom, I can't even go to the bathroom," "If I go to the bathroom, I'm afraid the sound of flushing will reveal that I'm inside," and "I thought I was going to die."
However, Kim's stalking intensified day by day, and there were also verbal abuse, threats, and indiscriminate assaults. The bereaved family told reporters, "Kim said, 'Ah, I didn't take my medicine today,' then suddenly turned off the black box in his car," and "Then he grabbed my sister (the victim) by the collar, dragged her down to a place without CCTV, and assaulted her." The victim woman reported to 112 for the first time that day, and it was confirmed that she reported to the police two more times afterward. Nevertheless, Kim continued stalking by visiting the woman's home and workplace while being investigated without detention.
Kim is suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend at an officetel in Busan on the afternoon of the 3rd of last month. On that day, he directly reported to the police, saying, "I killed my girlfriend." The police who arrived at the scene rescued Kim, who was sitting on the rooftop railing attempting to jump, and arrested him. The victim woman was stabbed with a weapon at her home, lost consciousness, and was transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away. It is estimated that she had suffered severe dating violence for at least six months. Kim is currently detained and indicted, and his trial is scheduled to begin at the end of this month.
