Myung Tae-kyun Reveals Kim Keon-hee's KakaoTalk: "Thoughtless Oppa" ... Presidential Office Says "Oppa Is Not Yoon"

On October 15, Myung Tae-kyun, who is suspected of leading the alleged intervention of First Lady Kim Keon-hee in party nominations, disclosed a KakaoTalk conversation he had with a person believed to be Kim. In this conversation, the individual saved as "Kim" told Myung, "Please forgive our oppa for his thoughtless chatter," and added, "People act that way when they are ignorant by nature."

On the same day, Myung posted on his Facebook page, "I'm sharing this at the strong request of Kim Jae-won, Supreme Council member of the People Power Party," and wrote, "Jaewon! Because of your reckless words, the conservative camp is failing again." He then uploaded a screenshot of the KakaoTalk conversation. The screenshot did not show the time of the conversation, and based on the context, 'oppa' is interpreted to refer to President Yoon.

The person believed to be Kim wrote in the KakaoTalk message, "I completely rely on you, Teacher Myung, but I just can't understand Enni oppa (presumably a typo for 'Inni'); what does he know anyway?"

The person also said, "Anyway, I can assure you that Teacher Myung's insight is the most outstanding," and added, "You are the only one who can resolve this." Myung replied, "If I meet Junseok tomorrow, we will get a clear answer. I will contact you tomorrow."

Earlier that day, Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won said in an interview with MBC Radio regarding Myung, who repeatedly claims close ties with President Yoon and the First Lady, "Myung Tae-kyun is a dog who will soon end up behind bars," and added, "I think he's barking out of fear right now. He should be sent to jail as soon as possible."

Myung reiterated, "Kim threatened me over the phone, saying he would send me to prison, and demanded that I disclose everything about President Yoon and the First Lady. Kim Jaewon, you should take responsibility for all of this."

In relation to this, Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform Party, wrote on Facebook, "Oppa (referring to President Yoon) has always talked thoughtlessly throughout every election period, so with just this public KakaoTalk message, I can't tell which incident it refers to. It is a well-known fact that oppa has been thoughtless from before joining the party until after being elected."

In contrast, the presidential office moved quickly to counter the situation immediately after Myung disclosed the KakaoTalk conversation. An official from the presidential office stated, "The 'oppa' mentioned in Myung Tae-kyun's KakaoTalk is not the president, but Kim Keon-hee's biological brother. At the time, the message was just a private conversation before the president joined the party," and added, "The claim that the president and his wife spoke with Myung on speakerphone every day for six months is completely groundless."
