The attraction of an international school within Incheon Yeongjong International City is set to accelerate. On the 15th, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced that it has begun an international public competition to establish an international school in Midan City, Yeongjong International City.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to recruit a business operator aiming to open the international school in 2028 by utilizing the educational research facility site (96,000㎡) in Midan City, Unbuk-dong, Jung-gu.
Eligibility to apply is limited to foreign school corporations under current law, including countries, local governments, or non-profit corporations that operate early childhood, elementary, middle, or high school educational institutions abroad. Evaluation criteria comprehensively include the reputation and operational capability of the main school, financial status, resources and academic plans of the branch school, and student recruitment strategies.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to receive business proposals until January 10 next year, then select a preferred negotiation partner after evaluation. Incheon Urban Corporation (iH), the developer of the Midan City project, will provide the site for the international school. The target opening is around 2028?2029.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority expects this international school attraction to be the first successful domestic case through an international public competition, unlike the previous method pursued through private contracts. Additionally, based on attracting the international school, it plans to improve living conditions for foreigners, promote investment attraction, and accelerate the revitalization of Midan City.
Currently, within the Incheon Free Economic Zone, there are two international schools in Songdo?Chadwick and Calvin Manitoba?and the Dalton Foreign School in Cheongna.
Yoon Won-seok, head of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, said, "We hope the international school to be established in Midan City will lead the development of Yeongjong," adding, "We will sequentially promote the establishment of additional international schools in Songdo International City in line with the progress of the Yeongjong international school project.".
