Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Remodels Jeju New Port... Advancing Global Leisure Port Upgrade

On the 15th, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced this plan at the public discussion forum "A Clean Island Open to the World, Global Resort City Jeju" held at the Jeju Free International City Development Center. To actively proceed with the Jeju New Port development, which was selected as a national agenda, the ministry plans to officially start the project by applying for a preliminary feasibility study from next year.

The ministry intends to complete the establishment of the basic port plan this year by reviewing the existing Jeju New Port development plan in accordance with marine tourism and logistics conditions, and newly adding plans to remodel the currently operating Jeju Port, including Jeju Inner Port and Jeju Outer Port.

Jeju New Port is planning four berths exclusively for ultra-large cruise ships to meet the increasing demand for international cruise tourists after COVID-19. Jeju Outer Port will be reorganized mainly as a passenger terminal to accommodate domestic passengers. Additionally, the physically limited Jeju Inner Port will be remodeled into a leisure port, exploring ways to enhance Jeju Island’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination around Jeju Port.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries stated, "We aim to develop Jeju into a world-class tourism port loved not only by domestic tourists but also by tourists of various nationalities such as China and Japan, contributing not only to the revitalization of Jeju’s regional economy but also to the development of the domestic tourism industry."
