The Construction Industry Vision Forum announced on the 15th that it will hold a seminar titled "Finding Answers in Convergence in the Digital Age" on the afternoon of the 23rd at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
In this seminar, the forum will benchmark the automobile and shipbuilding industries, which are the most digitized, to explore applicable methods for the construction sector and discuss what the 'game-changing' technologies leading the future of the construction industry are.
First, Heedae Park, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Construction Industry Research Institute, will present on "Digitalization and Automation Strategies in Construction through Benchmarking the Automobile and Shipbuilding Industries." Specifically, he will examine cases where the automobile and shipbuilding industries, facing labor shortages, have advanced to world-class levels by utilizing digital technology, automation, and robotics. Based on this, he will propose how the construction industry, constrained by high labor dependence and one-off projects, can optimize and improve production processes.
Next, Taewan Kim, Professor at Incheon National University, will present on "Strategies to Secure Future Game-Changing Technologies in the Construction Sector." The main topics include what technologies can enable the domestic construction industry to change the game and grow in the global market amid an industry environment dominated by winner-takes-all due to the emergence of digitalization, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI), and how these technologies can be secured.
The panel discussion will be chaired by Sangho Lee, former President of the Korea Construction Industry Research Institute, with participation from experts responsible for the shipbuilding, automobile, and construction industries, as well as university professors. Afterwards, the discussion will be expanded to include seminar attendees for an open forum.
Okyeong Kwon, Secretary General of the Construction Industry Vision Forum, said, "This will be a valuable opportunity for the construction industry to find ways to utilize digital technology, automation, robotics, and AI by benchmarking the automobile and shipbuilding industries," adding, "We look forward to the participation of construction company researchers, smart construction personnel, and students interested in the future of the construction industry."
Anyone interested in the seminar can attend for free by pre-registering on the Construction Industry Vision Forum website.
