Carbon Emissions Reduced by Approximately 8% Compared to Previous Levels
LG Display announced on the 15th that its 14-inch premium laptop LCD panel has received the 'Carbon Emission Reduction Certification' from the global inspection and certification organization TUV Rheinland, marking the first time a display panel has been certified. This certification signifies a reduction in carbon emissions during the product manufacturing process.
LG Display explained that it reduced carbon emissions by approximately 8% throughout the entire process of producing the laptop panel, from production to use and disposal. From the product design stage, LG Display prioritized using easily recyclable components and improved power efficiency by increasing circuit integration through ultra-precision microfabrication processes. By developing and applying a low-power algorithm that reduces power consumption, the company contributed to an overall reduction in emissions.

LG Display used biomass plastic extracted from sugarcane byproducts in this panel. This plastic is biodegradable in nature and is gaining attention as an eco-friendly material that can replace conventional fossil fuel-based plastics. By utilizing such eco-friendly materials, LG Display saved resources and reduced carbon emissions generated during the product manufacturing process. As a result of using biomass plastic, LG Display’s panel also obtained the 'Bio-Based Material Certification' from UL Solutions, a global safety science company.
Since 2021, LG Display has been implementing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) techniques to comprehensively evaluate the environmental impact generated throughout all stages from product manufacturing to use and disposal. Through this, the company has reduced the amount of materials and components used, cut greenhouse gas emissions and power consumption during manufacturing, and achieved various eco-friendly outcomes such as developing low-power products and reducing waste generation.
Jung-ki Park, Executive Vice President and Head of the Medium-sized Development Group at LG Display, said, “This product is characterized not only by excellent performance such as high resolution and high refresh rate but also by its eco-friendly elements. We will provide differentiated customer value through high-performance products integrated with eco-friendly technology and lead the high-end IT display market.”
