Breakthrough Ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 15th, Attended by City Vice Mayor for Future Innovation, City Council Members, and Officials
Busan Inner Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway Scheduled to Open in January 2026
The Busan Construction Headquarters will hold a breakthrough ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 15th at the construction site of the "Busan Inner-City Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway."
This ceremony marks the breakthrough of the entire section of Busan's first deep underground road, the "Busan Inner-City Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway," which is under construction to alleviate severe traffic congestion on major arterial roads such as Chungnyeol-daero and Suyeong Riverside-daero.
The "Busan Inner-City Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway" is a four-lane, two-way road with a total length of 9.62 km, connecting Mandeok-dong in Buk-gu (Mandeok-daero) and Jaesong-dong in Haeundae-gu (Suyeong Riverside-daero). Since construction began in October 2019, the current progress rate is 67%.
The project is being carried out by Busan Dongseo Expressway Co., Ltd., with GS Engineering & Construction and eight other companies responsible for construction.
On the day of the ceremony, approximately 100 people, including Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation, city council members, and construction officials, will attend. The event will proceed in the order of progress report, commemorative address, button touch, and commemorative photo.
The "Busan Inner-City Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway" is scheduled to open in January 2026. Once opened, the travel time between Mandeok and Centum will be reduced by over 30 minutes, from the current 41.8 minutes to 11.3 minutes. The expected economic effects include an annual reduction in travel costs of 64.8 billion KRW, an induced production effect of 1.2332 trillion KRW, and the creation of 9,599 jobs.
In addition, the project is expected to contribute to the completion of the inner-city loop road network, balanced regional development, alleviation of surface road congestion, and environmentally friendly road construction.
Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation, stated, "I would like to thank all the construction personnel for safely completing the breakthrough of the entire section. Although there were many construction challenges due to the application of deep underground construction methods in the city for the first time in Busan, this will serve as valuable experience and a foundation for technological advancement in future projects. The city will do its utmost to complete the remaining work inside the tunnel and finish the 'Busan Inner-City Loop (Mandeok-Centum) Urban Expressway' within the scheduled timeframe."
