Chungnam Asan and Yesan, Jeonbuk Namwon Selected as Candidate Sites for the 2nd Central Police Academy
Governor Kim: "Very Displeased That Yeongho-nam United to Pursue Political Logic"
Governor Kim Tae-heum expressed strong displeasure at the joint political response of Yeongho-nam provincial governors regarding the bid to host the Second Central Police Academy.
On the 14th, Governor Kim held an emergency briefing at the provincial government office and stated, "While I understand the efforts to attract the Second Central Police Academy to Namwon, I am quite displeased that Yeongho-nam joined hands and put forth a political argument under the pretext of East-West harmony or regional balanced development."
He continued, "I do not understand what connection there is between attracting the Central Police Academy and East-West harmony or regional balanced development," emphasizing, "The selection of the location should not be approached with political logic, but rather through a fair and just review to determine which region is the most suitable."
Governor Kim pointed out, "If such political logic from Yeongho-nam influences the site selection process for the Central Police Academy, I will not stand by. It is not appropriate for the selection process to become overheated and politically distorted."
He added, "If the review is conducted fairly and objectively, Asan and Yesan have sufficient competitiveness, and I hope they can engage in healthy competition."
Previously, Asan City and Yesan County in South Chungcheong Province, and Namwon City in North Jeolla Province were selected as candidate sites for the establishment of the Second Central Police Academy.
Ahead of the final selection, the governors of six regions in Yeongho-nam, including North Jeolla, Gwangju, South Jeolla, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang, issued a joint statement supporting the bid to host the academy in Namwon. Subsequently, Mayor Hong Joonpyo of Daegu also expressed his intention to join.
Choi Kyungsik, Mayor of Namwon, previously stated, "Attracting the Second Central Police Academy to Namwon will serve as a catalyst for the co-prosperity of Yeongho-nam, and we will strive to make it a successful model for East-West harmony and balanced national development."
