Nam-gu, Gwangju announced on October 14 that it is holding a special book exhibition dedicated to author Han Kang, who became the first Asian woman and the first South Korean to win the Nobel Prize in Literature this year.
The exhibition has been taking place since October 11 in the General Reading Room on the 6th floor of the Culture and Information Library in Bongseon-dong, and will continue for three weeks until October 31. The district has created a special curated space to celebrate Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature and to commemorate this remarkable achievement for Korean literature.
The exhibition features seven books by Han Kang held in the library's collection, including "Human Acts," "I Do Not Bid Farewell," "Dinner Placed in a Drawer," "The Vegetarian," "The Wind Blows, Go," "White," and "Love in Yeosu."
Since October 11, libraries across the district-including the Culture and Information Library, Pureungil Library, Youth Library, and Hyocheon Library-have seen a surge of citizens rushing to borrow Han Kang's books, resulting in all available copies being checked out almost instantly and fueling a strong "Han Kang fever."
An official from Nam-gu stated, "Thanks to Han Kang, who has elevated the stature of Korean literature on the global stage, there is a passionate surge of interest in books among local residents. We extend our congratulations and gratitude to Han Kang, who has set a new milestone in the history of Korean literature."
