Paju-si Encourages Compliance with Regular Groundwater Quality Inspections in the Second Half of the Year

Water Quality Testing is Essential for Clean and Safe Groundwater Use

Paju-si Encourages Compliance with Regular Groundwater Quality Inspections in the Second Half of the Year Paju City Hall exterior.

On the 14th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has simultaneously sent out regular water quality inspection notices to 360 sites subject to water quality testing and launched a promotional campaign to ensure the clean and safe use and management of groundwater.

Groundwater developers and users must request water quality inspections from specialized institutions according to the current Groundwater Act regulations, based on the pumping capacity for each use such as domestic, industrial, and agricultural purposes.

For drinking water, if the daily pumping capacity exceeds 30 tons, water quality inspections must be conducted every 2 years; if below, every 3 years. For domestic and industrial water, inspections are required every 3 years if the daily pumping capacity is 30 tons or more, and for agricultural water, if it is 100 tons or more per day.

Accordingly, groundwater developers and users who received the second half of the year water quality inspection notice must request an inspection from a specialized institution within the designated period and submit the water quality inspection report to the Waterworks Division.

The city urged caution to avoid disadvantages, noting that failure to undergo regular water quality inspections may result in fines of up to 3 million KRW according to the Groundwater Act.

A Paju City official stated, “Once groundwater is contaminated, it takes considerable time and cost to restore it to its original state, so prevention in advance is very important,” and added, “We will do our best to provide regular guidance and promotion to prevent cases where people fail to conduct water quality inspections due to lack of awareness or not knowing how to perform the inspections.”
