On the 14th, Communication with 50 Public Officials with Three or More Children
Nation's First Special Promotion Award for Public Officials with Five Children
On the 14th at 11 a.m., Ulsan City will hold a "Brown Bag Meeting to Encourage Public Officials with Multiple Children" at the staff lounge on the 14th floor of City Hall's main building.
According to the "Ordinance on Measures and Support for Low Birth Rate in Ulsan Metropolitan City," a multi-child family is defined as a household raising, protecting, and educating two or more children, including at least one minor. However, this event is specifically for employees with three or more children.
The event will be attended by Mayor Kim Dookyum and 50 public officials with three or more children. It will include encouragement from Mayor Kim for public officials with multiple children, as well as discussions on creating a workplace culture that supports work-life balance.
In particular, during this event, Kim Joohwan, a fire lieutenant at the Jungbu Fire Station and a public official with five children who has been at the forefront of special disaster site rescue activities such as the Hanwha Chemical explosion and the Yeompo Pier ship fire, will be the first in the nation to receive a special promotion (from fire lieutenant to fire captain) and a model public official certificate as a reward.
Ulsan City provides various forms of support, such as the First Meeting Voucher, Child Allowance, and Birth Celebration Grant. To strengthen birth and childcare support policies, the "Ulsan City Child Care Center," which offers emergency care 24/7 year-round, opened in August this year and is now in operation.
Additionally, starting in 2025, the city plans to introduce a "Grandparent Grandchild Care Allowance" to create a stable care environment for households where grandparents care for grandchildren. Other initiatives include providing "Child Culture Pass Cards" and "Noise Reduction Mats for Child-Friendly Homes" to help ease the burden of childcare on families.
Mayor Kim Dookyum stated, "This event is the first step toward creating a family-friendly workplace culture and strengthening our response to low birth rates," and added, "We will foster a social atmosphere in which multi-child families in Ulsan are respected and supported, and implement sustainable Ulsan-style population and low birth rate policies."
