ChatGPT Also "Will Face Fierce Competition... Difficult to Predict"
The U.S. presidential election scheduled for the 5th of next month is continuing to be a neck-and-neck race. In this situation, the American news weekly Newsweek asked the AI chatbot ChatGPT to predict who would win between Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and former Republican President Donald Trump.
When asked, ChatGPT also responded that "it is difficult to predict the outcome of this U.S. presidential election with certainty." It described the race as "very competitive," without favoring either candidate.
However, ChatGPT explained factors that could influence the election results, such as the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. These were largely consistent with expert predictions. ChatGPT first cited Vice President Harris's strengths as her diverse appeal, leadership experience as a prosecutor and vice president, interest in progressive issues, and campaign skills.
However, it evaluated that "while she receives strong support from certain demographic groups, she has not shown broad appeal to the overall Democratic Party, especially to moderate and older voters who are wary of her progressive tendencies."
Regarding former President Trump, it listed his major strengths as a "strong support base," "populist messaging," "campaign expertise," and "economic achievements." In fact, various polls show that Trump is ahead of Vice President Harris on key election issues such as the economy and inflation.
It added, "Some voters, including Republicans, may feel fatigued by his chaotic governing style and constant media drama. This gives Harris an opportunity to position herself as a calmer and more stable candidate."
ChatGPT mentioned the candidates' weaknesses as an image of incompetence (Harris) and judicial risks (Trump).
The Trump campaign recently attacked Vice President Harris regarding the hurricane damage that struck the southeastern United States, saying, "Vice President Harris is too busy raising campaign funds to do anything about hurricane recovery." Meanwhile, the Harris campaign has continued to exploit former President Trump's weaknesses, stating that "Trump's attempts to reject the election results are a damage to democracy."
