Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it was selected as an outstanding institution at the '2024 Disaster Management Evaluation Awards Ceremony' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 11th, receiving the Presidential Citation. The city added that with this award, it became the first local government nationwide to receive the Presidential Citation for three consecutive years.

This event is held annually to select and reward institutions with excellent disaster management capabilities among 332 disaster management responsible organizations, including the central government, local governments, and public institutions, in accordance with the 'Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act.' With this award, the city will receive a special grant of 245 million KRW.

The city explained that it was recognized for its disaster management capabilities by establishing a professional response system for various disaster situations, strengthening prevention and victim support systems. The city was also highly evaluated for deploying dedicated personnel through the advancement of the disaster safety situation room system and enhancing support systems and emergency relief capabilities for victims in the event of a disaster.

In particular, the 'Smart City Integrated Platform,' which enables real-time response during disaster situations, and the 'Safety Culture Salon,' a collaboration model among safety-related institutions, have become exemplary cases frequently benchmarked by other organizations. The Safety Culture Salon is a meeting regularly held for heads of safety-related institutions within the jurisdiction, such as the police, fire department, and education office, to discuss citizen safety, proposed by Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City.

To spread a culture of safety, the city conducts private-led safety accident prevention campaigns such as 'Yongin Citizen Safety Keepers' and 'Safety Guards,' and also provides experiential safety education targeting various age groups.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "We established a policy to prioritize citizen safety in all areas of city administration, and as a result, we have received the Presidential Citation for three consecutive years. We will continue to invest generously in creating a safe city by preparing for disasters, preventing crimes, preventing floods, responding to heatwaves, and creating a safe school commute environment."

Earlier, in September, the city ranked first in Gyeonggi Province's 'Comprehensive Evaluation of Winter Natural Disaster Measures' and received 450 million KRW from the disaster management fund.
