"Experimenting with Ideas by Converting Hotel Rooms into Kitchens"
Edward Lee, a star chef from the United States and a cast member of the Netflix variety show 'Black and White Chef,' shared his thoughts on the broadcast. In response to some criticisms that he was at a disadvantage in the competition due to the lack of a kitchen to practice in, he stated, "I have no regrets."
On the 11th, Lee began his message on his Instagram account by saying, "Where should I start? I am grateful for the love received from those who watched 'Black and White Chef' over the past few weeks."
He expressed how moved he was by fans' comments and messages, emphasizing, "For a child like me who spent most of my childhood away from Korean culture, being connected to Korean heritage, representing Korean cuisine through my vision, and receiving support from all of you means more than words can describe."
He also thanked the chefs who competed alongside him on the show. He called it a "crazy experience" and said, "I am lucky to be able to call all of you my friends."
Some have pointed out that he might have been at a disadvantage in the competition due to the lack of a kitchen to practice Korean cooking. In response, Lee said, "What is a kitchen? While in Korea, I turned my hotel room into a kitchen for testing, bought ingredients from local markets, and tried out ideas. A kitchen is not just fancy equipment or premium ingredients; it is passion, love, and creativity."
In 'Black and White Chef,' he was one of the final two contestants along with Chef Kwon Seongjun, who used the pseudonym 'Napolimatpia.' He ultimately finished as the runner-up after losing the final battle. Regarding this, Chef Kwon left a comment saying, "Respected Gyun (Edward Lee's Korean name), thank you for your hard work. It was a great honor to cook alongside you."
Meanwhile, Lee, born in Seoul, moved to the United States and graduated from New York University with a degree in English Literature. He is known to have started cooking at the age of 22. In 2010, he rose to fame as a star chef across the U.S. by winning Season 8 of 'Iron Chef America.' In Korea, he appeared on 'Black and White Chef' and finished as the runner-up.
