According to Yonhap News on the 11th, Roberto Gualtieri, the mayor of Rome, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on the 9th (local time), "President Emmanuel Macron, don't worry, Emily is doing very well in Rome." Mayor Gualtieri added, "And since you cannot control (Emily's) heart, let's let her choose."

This was in response to an interview with President Macron released the same day. In the interview with the American magazine Variety on the 9th (local time), President Macron said he wants the protagonist Emily of "Emily in Paris" not to leave Paris.

While discussing Netflix and European streaming services, Macron was asked about Emily's departure to Rome. Macron replied, "We will fight hard" to bring Emily back to Paris. He emphasized, "We will ask them to stay in Paris," adding, "Emily in Paris in Rome makes no sense."

Macron also mentioned that his wife Brigitte made a cameo appearance in "Emily in Paris." He responded, "I was very proud, and Brigitte was very happy."

"Emily in Paris" is one of Netflix's most popular original dramas. The show follows Emily Cooper, a 20-something American marketing executive played by Lily Collins, who is assigned to the Paris branch of her company. In the latest season, Season 4, after struggling with work and love issues in Paris, Emily ultimately decides to stay in Rome. This has led to expectations that the story will unfold in Rome starting from Season 5.

The drama has played a significant role in promoting Paris and attracting tourists. According to a study conducted by the French National Center for Cinema in January, about one in ten tourists decided to visit France after watching a particular movie or TV series. Among them, 38% said they were influenced by "Emily in Paris."
