Full-scale implementation starts this week aiming for completion by the end of December
Replacing 770 lights in the 440-meter section under Guui Station subway station
Creating a night street brighter than daytime for the first time in 15 years since landscape lighting installation in 2009
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will begin replacing the landscape lighting installed under the Guui Station this week.
The landscape lighting at Guui Station was installed in 2009 and has become old and worn out. The station, nearby buildings, and facilities are located close to each other, creating dark shadowed areas regardless of day or night. Due to aging and the passage of the service life, the lighting levels are inconsistent, leading to frequent complaints from subway users. Especially at night, when there are many users, it is necessary to make the area under the station brighter and more comfortable.
Accordingly, the district will improve the landscape lighting for the first time in 15 years to secure visibility, safety, and urban aesthetics. With a budget of about 1.3 billion KRW, 770 lights will be replaced along a 440-meter section around Guui Station.
Line lights will be installed on the ceiling under the station, and floodlights on the pillars to ensure illumination on the roadway, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere. The lighting products are high-efficiency and eco-friendly, with attention paid to maintenance as well.
Additionally, specialized nighttime landscape lighting will be produced for specific occasions such as year-end holidays and Christmas. Floodlights and gobos will be projected onto walls and walkways to capture both residents’ safety and attention.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Through this landscape lighting improvement project, we will take care of both urban aesthetics and residents’ safety. We hope it will help the daily lives of residents using Guui Station,” and added, “We will strive to make Gwangjin-gu safer and more comfortable.”
