The first blood donation center for companion dogs outside the Seoul metropolitan area has opened at Kyungpook National University.
On the 10th, Kyungpook National University held an opening ceremony for the 'KNU I'M DOgNOR Blood Donation Center' and a donation ceremony for a 'pet ambulance' at the university's College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital. The ceremony was attended by Lee Injoong, Vice President for Research and Industry-Academic Cooperation at Kyungpook National University, Lee Manhui, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Jung Yooseok, Executive Vice President and Head of Domestic Business at Hyundai Motor Company.
The opening of this blood donation center is part of Hyundai Motor Company's social contribution campaign 'I'M DOgNOR,' which aims to promote a proper culture of blood donation for companion dogs. The center was established based on a memorandum of understanding signed between Hyundai Motor Company and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kyungpook National University in June. This is the second companion dog blood donation center in the country and the first outside the Seoul metropolitan area. The two organizations expect that the center will help secure and quickly supply healthy and diverse blood for companion dogs, and ultimately resolve the issue of donor dogs being raised solely for blood supply purposes.
The 'pet ambulance,' specially manufactured by modifying Hyundai Motor Company's electrification business platform 'ST1,' will be operated to establish an emergency medical infrastructure for companion dogs.
Lee Manhui, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kyungpook National University, stated, "With the opening of this blood donation center, we expect to secure healthy blood for companion dogs and provide better veterinary medical services. We hope that many companion dogs will participate in blood donation in the future, leading to improved safety and welfare for companion dogs."
