About 120 participants who advanced through regional preliminaries competed in the finals, taking a dictation test reminiscent of the civil service exams of the Joseon Dynasty. Sixteen sentences featuring advanced spelling and spacing rules were given as questions. According to the grading results, Lee Jaemyung of Daegu Sasu Elementary School achieved the highest score and was awarded the First Prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award).

Lee Jaemyung commented, "I have always been interested in using correct Korean. I wanted to set an example for my students and become a teacher they could be proud of, so I studied Korean spelling for about two hours every day after work. I am truly delighted to receive the highest honor, the First Prize."

Principal Kang Hyukju said, "I was extremely proud to hear that, while passionately teaching students every day and continuously striving for self-development after work, Lee Jaemyung achieved first place in a national competition. His effort and passion will surely be a great example for our students."
