A project to transform Incheon Open Port into a global attraction is being promoted.
Incheon City announced on the 11th that it has established a global branding strategy for the Open Port and will actively promote projects that citizens can experience starting next year.
This project aims to revitalize the local economy by utilizing historical and cultural resources, and to establish the brand value and identity of the Jemulpo area, positioning it as a global landmark.
The Open Port area holds significant historical value as a center of modernization and multiculturalism. Incheon City plans to attract tourists and maximize the region’s brand value through a landmark strategy that combines storytelling and experiential elements in these spaces.
Additionally, the city intends to improve tourism routes and pedestrian environments, which have been fragmented by ports, railroads, and main roads, to enhance living conditions for local residents and strengthen the Jemulpo brand. To this end, since last month, the city has been conducting a pilot project to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety at key points from Incheon Station to Open Port Plaza.
Along with this, the city plans to transform into a more attractive city by enhancing various experiential elements such as discovering historical resources, improving the physical environment, and providing tourism information.
The city is also activating local brand promotion through social networking service (SNS) platforms and operating various programs to encourage community participation and cooperation, including citizen participation programs like the Jemulpo Wave Market and support for local creators.
An official from Incheon City stated, "If the Open Port global branding strategy is successfully implemented, the Open Port will become a global attraction where historical value and modern local content converge." He added, "Through this, not only will the local economy be revitalized, but the quality of life for citizens and Incheon’s cultural and economic value are also expected to greatly improve."
