Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 11th that it is recruiting 262 "Airport Noise Damage Area Scholarship Students" by the 25th of this month for students living in noise countermeasure and nearby areas who suffer from infringement of learning rights due to aircraft noise, and will provide a total of 400 million KRW in scholarships.

The scholarships are divided into "General Scholarships," "Athletic Scholarships" for student athletes, and "Noise Damage Weighted Area Scholarships" for students in areas with high noise damage.

The target applicants for the "General Scholarships" are 83 high school students and 150 university students who have continuously lived for more than one year as of the 7th in the Yangcheon-gu airport noise countermeasure area and nearby areas (noise impact level of 57 Lden or higher). To verify the relevant area, applicants can refer to the noise map on the "Airport Noise Portal" or inquire at the Yangcheon-gu Airport Noise Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Center or the local community service center of their residence. However, previous recipients from 2022 to 2023 and students on leave are excluded from eligibility.

Applicants are selected based on a high score order according to the airport noise damage area residence period (95 points) and multi-child family status (5 points), reflecting noise weighting. The final selected scholarship students will receive 1 million KRW for high school students and 2 million KRW for university students. Applications can be submitted by visiting the local community service center of the applicant’s jurisdiction or by mail by the 25th of this month, referring to the notice on the district office website.

For 29 students living in "Athletic" and "Noise Damage Weighted Areas (66 Lden or higher)," elementary and middle school students will receive 500,000 KRW, and high school students will receive 1 million KRW in scholarships. Candidates are selected through school principal recommendations, comprehensively considering family circumstances and conduct. The district plans to finalize the scholarship recipients and provide scholarships after the scoring process in November.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "We are promoting the scholarship support project to create a stable learning environment for students in airport noise damage areas and to provide resident-centered support." He added, "We will continue to actively promote various resident support projects so that residents affected by airport noise can receive practical compensation through close communication with related ministries and institutions."
