Faisal Attends Smart Life Week to Benchmark Policies
Promoting Exchange Between Riyadh and Seoul Cities
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will meet with Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to discuss cooperation plans in the field of urban planning. Based on this, Seoul plans to sign a friendship and cooperation agreement (MOU) with Riyadh.
On the 11th at 2 p.m., Mayor Oh will meet Mayor Faisal at the Seoul City Hall office to discuss cooperation plans related to the creation of smart cities and cultural industry exchanges between Seoul and Riyadh, and will sign a friendship and cooperation agreement.
This agreement marks the fifth cooperation with Middle Eastern countries following Tehran, Iran (2017), Muscat, Oman (2018), Tel Aviv, Israel (2019), and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2024). The meeting was arranged as Mayor Faisal visited Seoul from the 10th to the 12th to attend the Smart Life Week (SLW), an ICT exhibition hosted by Seoul at COEX. Through this agreement, it is expected that Seoul and Riyadh will share technologies and policies for smart city development and promote cultural industry growth through cultural exchanges such as K-content.
During the meeting, Mayor Oh will introduce various cases of smart city Seoul and highlight excellent policies that improve citizens' daily lives. Mayor Faisal will also share Riyadh’s 'Riyadh Green Project' and urban development policies. They will exchange views on the first-ever Smart Life Week, smart city policies that enhance citizens' quality of life, and securing digital basic rights that everyone can enjoy without exclusion.
Seoul plans to strengthen cooperation between the two cities starting with this agreement and promote various activities such as personnel and cultural exchanges. Additionally, both cities will actively share smart city policies, infrastructure, and experiences.
Meanwhile, Mayor Faisal and a delegation of 27 representatives from Riyadh visited Seoul not only to attend Smart Life Week but also to inspect excellent Seoul policies and hold meetings during their visit. They visited key sites of interest to Mayor Faisal, including the Seoul Transportation Information System (TOPIS), Cheonggyecheon Museum, and Seoul Botanic Park, to observe data utilization in advanced transportation systems, eco-friendly urban regeneration cases of Cheonggyecheon, and sustainable green space creation at Seoul Botanic Park, experiencing Seoul’s advanced technology and innovative urban management methods.
