Receiving 1.5 Million to 7 Million Won Irregularly
A shaman who received 600 million won from a man in his 40s by claiming that problems would arise in the household if rituals and prayers were not performed has been arrested by the police.
The Geumsan Police Station in Chungnam reported on the 10th through Yonhap News that they have booked a shaman in his 40s without detention on charges of fraud and extortion for repeatedly extorting large sums of money over several years under the pretext of ritual and prayer fees.
Mr. A is accused of telling his male client Mr. B (in his 40s), who visited him from 2022 until July of this year, phrases such as “If you do not pray, misfortune will occur,” “A ghost is attached, so you must perform a ritual,” and “If you do not perform the ritual, your child will become ill,” and receiving about 600 million won from Mr. B several times as fees for rituals and prayers.
The amount of money he received is known to range from 1.5 million to 7 million won per instance. The shaman promised to return the ritual and prayer fees later but did not do so. The police are investigating the exact scale of the damage and whether there are additional offenses by checking Mr. A’s bank transfer records and other evidence.
