November 11-12 Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center and Yakryeong Jungang-ro Area Ritual Parade, Bibim Performance, and Korean Medicine Experience Programs Available
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that from the 11th to the 12th, the “30th Seoul Yakryeongsi Boje-won Korean Medicine Culture Festival” will be held at the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center and the Yakryeong Jungang-ro area.
This festival, organized by the Seoul Yakryeongsi Association, was prepared to widely promote the historical value of Seoul Yakryeongsi and the excellence of Korean medicine. Various Korean medicine cultural experience programs will be held in the Seoul Yakryeongsi area, the largest herbal medicine distribution market in the country.
On the first day of the festival, starting at 10 a.m. on the 11th, the “Boje-won Jesang Parade” will take place, beginning at Yakryeongsi North Gate 1, passing through Gyeongdong Market, and continuing to Iljumun Gate. Following this, a traditional Jesang ritual will be reenacted in the courtyard on the first floor of the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center, offering visitors a chance to feel the depth of tradition.
On the same day at 11:30 a.m., a “Bibim Performance” will be held, where participants will make and share a healthy bibimbap using Korean medicine ingredients. Through the process of harmonizing various ingredients into one, the meaning of Boje-won, which was a past relief institution, will be recalled.
At 2 p.m., the official opening ceremony will be held, followed by an academic seminar of the Korean Medicine Industry Win-Win Development Council on the theme of “The Role of Local Governments in the Development and Revitalization of the Korean Medicine Industry.”
After the seminar, a celebratory performance featuring popular singer “Park Seo-jin” and others will raise the festival’s atmosphere. As night falls, along Yakryeong Jungang-ro, a Cheongsachorong (traditional Korean lantern) lighting ceremony and various cultural performances will continue, marking the highlight of the festival.
Additionally, in the Yakryeongsi area, various programs allowing visitors to experience Korean medicine culture will be offered, including ▲making Korean medicine cosmetics and perfumes ▲making Korean medicine scented pouches ▲Yakryeong Market alley tours.
On the second day, special programs such as a Korean medicine cooking contest and a traditional herbal medicine slicing competition will welcome visitors.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Through this festival, we hope that many residents will directly experience the excellence of traditional Korean medicine by combining the value of traditional Korean medicine with modern interpretations, bringing them closer to Korean medicine.” He added, “We will continue various efforts for the development of the Korean medicine industry as a center of Korean medicine culture.”
