The Civil Division 48 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Do-gyun) ruled on the 10th that in the lawsuit filed by Vice Chairman Jung against his younger sister and brother for the return of an inheritance portion worth 200 million won, “The younger brother shall pay Vice Chairman Jung 32.38 million won, and the younger sister shall pay 111.22 million won,” granting partial victory to the plaintiff.
However, the court ruled in favor of the siblings in a counterclaim they filed against Vice Chairman Jung, demanding ownership of real estate in Dongsung-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Accordingly, Vice Chairman Jung must divide a portion of the property with his siblings.
Vice Chairman Jung’s mother left a will on March 15, 2018, stating that “all land and deposit assets totaling 1 billion won shall be inherited by the daughter and the second son,” and passed away in February of the following year.
Vice Chairman Jung contested the validity of the will, arguing that “the handwriting on the will does not appear to be the same as the deceased’s usual handwriting, and it is suspected that it was written when the deceased was not in a normal cognitive state,” but he lost the lawsuit. Subsequently, in August 2020, Vice Chairman Jung filed a lawsuit demanding the return of the statutory inheritance portion.
Initially, the late Jung Kyung-jin, Chairman of Jongno Academy and Vice Chairman Jung’s father, also participated as a plaintiff in the lawsuit but passed away in November 2020.
