30 Minutes in Front of Heungkuk Life Building Throughout October
Taekwang Group announced on the 10th that it will hold the 'Hammering Man Autumn Concert' every Thursday at 12:30 PM for 30 minutes in front of the Heungkuk Life Insurance Building in Gwanghwamun throughout the cultural month of October.
The first concert featured recorder player Nam Hyeong-ju and gayageum player Eo Yun-seok. Nam Hyeong-ju performed Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" and "Hidden Day" accompanied by piano, while Eo Yun-seok played "Rose of Sharon Dreaming of the Sea" and "Chimhyangmu," among others.
Nam Hyeong-ju will participate as the main host of this concert series, performing in all four shows. Future performances will feature harmonica player Lee Hyun-myung (October 17), pianist Yoo Ye-eun (October 24), and harmonica player Lee Yun-seok (October 31) sharing the stage.
Recorder player Nam Hyeong-ju is performing on an outdoor stage set up in front of the 'Hammering Man' at the Heungkuk Life Insurance Building in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
All performers have special ties with Taekwang Group. Nam Hyeong-ju, Yoo Ye-eun, and Lee Yun-seok are scholarship recipients of the Ilju Academic and Cultural Foundation, established by the late Chairman Lee Im-yong, the founder of Taekwang Group. Lee Hyun-myung is an employee of "Keun Heemang," Taekwang Group’s certified workplace for people with disabilities.
The "Hammering Man," serving as the backdrop for the concert stage, is a representative public art piece in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, created by American sculptor Jonathan Borofsky. Borofsky has installed Hammering Man sculptures in 11 cities worldwide, with the Gwanghwamun Hammering Man being the largest.
Through this concert series, Taekwang Group plans to continue the role of the Heungkuk Life Insurance Building as an "urban cultural and artistic space." The Sehwa Art Museum, located on the 3rd floor of the Heungkuk Life Insurance Building, will be open free of charge every Thursday lunchtime in October for nearby office workers. In the building’s basement, Cinecube is currently screening "Perfect Days," an art film that has attracted 130,000 viewers, a rare feat for this genre.
A Taekwang Group representative said, "Taekwang has always regarded support for culture and the arts as a crucial corporate responsibility. Following last summer’s focus on film and art, this autumn we aim to share valuable cultural and artistic experiences with citizens through music."
