The Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association (President Song Pil-ho) and LH Korea Land and Housing Corporation announced on the 10th that they selected Lee Yong-gu and Kwon Seon-pil, who carried out dedicated life-saving activities during the heavy rain in July, as 'LH Honorary Heroes' and presented them with certificates of commendation and prize money of 5 million won.
Lee Yong-gu, the first hero residing in Nonsan, Chungnam, swam through the water to evacuate elderly residents despite his physical difficulties when the village was flooded due to the heavy rain. The second hero, Kwon Seon-pil, rescued isolated residents by riding a single-person kayak in a village in Seo-gu, Daejeon, where the embankment had collapsed.
Lee Yong-gu expressed his feelings, saying, "I am happy to receive an award even though I just did what was natural for my neighbors."
An LH official said, "We will continue to discover heroes who serve as social role models," and added, "LH will fulfill its corporate social responsibility and work toward realizing a happy society."
Hope Bridge Secretary General Shin Hoon said, "We express our respect to the two heroes who saved others in a sudden disaster situation," and added, "Hope Bridge, together with LH, will highlight the hidden everyday heroes so that positive influence can spread throughout our society."
