Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) will host the 18th Chaseong Cultural Festival at the Gijang Hyundai Motor Dream Ballpark over two days, from the 12th to the 13th, organized by the Chaseong Cultural Festival Promotion Committee.

The Chaseong Cultural Festival, now in its 18th year, is a celebration aimed at promoting the succession and development of Gijang-gun’s traditional culture and fostering unity among its residents. This year, a variety of programs and performances reflecting Gijang’s long history and traditions will be offered, promising more attractions and entertainment than ever before.

On the first day, the 12th, the festival will kick off with the Gijang Residents’ Walking Contest, followed by unique entrance parades for each town and township. There will also be a traditional cultural performance by the Yeongnam Seongju Sori Preservation Association, led by Cho Gap-yong (current artistic director of the Dure Art Troupe and recipient of the Presidential Award at the National Nongak Competition). In addition, the Gijang Open Concert will feature the Choi Baekho Band’s Romantic Concert and performances by Ssa-gun, Mimirose, KCM, and Gummy, delivering moving stages that span generations and genres.

On the second day, the 13th, the Chaseong Korean Writing Contest and Drawing Contest will take place, along with the 18th Chaseong Cultural Festival commemorative “INet TV Star Show,” featuring trot singers such as Nam Jin, Hyun Sook, Kim Seonghwan, Yoo Jina, Han Bom, and Ryu Jigwang.

The Gijang Artists Association’s “Gijang Art Festival” and the “Gijang Ceramics Festival” will also be held concurrently, offering an even wider range of attractions and activities. There will be group jump rope, tug-of-war, shoe archery, and Ssireum competitions by town and township, further fueling the excitement and unity of Gijang residents.

Other activities include: ▲Exhibitions of traditional Korean kites and a kite-making and flying experience with Bae Musam, Master of Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 21, as well as traditional experiences such as rice cake pounding; ▲Whale sun catcher and Jibbitz making; ▲Color therapy; ▲A resource circulation campaign by the Gijang Urban Management Corporation; ▲A Marine Corps experience and promotion center featuring Marine Corps uniforms and the Marine Challenge (pull-ups, hanging, push-ups); ▲Trendy experiences such as a bouncy castle playground and cotton candy made by robots, in collaboration with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

During the festival, a variety of prize events will be held for participants, and there will be a marketplace and food stalls selling local specialties such as Gijang Pajeon, as well as a market, flea market, and food trucks to delight visitors’ palates and eyes. The county will significantly expand benefits for Culture Nuri Card users by linking the card with food trucks at the venue, and will operate a shuttle bus (Donghae Nambu Line Jwacheon Station) for public transportation users at regular intervals.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, “While continuing the legacy of Gijang-gun’s representative traditional culture event where tradition and modernity coexist, this festival will serve as a grand gathering for all residents to unite as one,” and added, “I hope many residents and tourists will enjoy the various attractions and activities on offer.”
