Over 30 Types of Fish Grilled to Golden Perfection on Charcoal
Newly Renovated Through the 'Sikkeulbeokjeok Project'
On the way to Goheung traditional market, the scent of charcoal grill brushes past your nose from afar.
Standing at the threshold of autumn, Goheung traditional market has changed into a new look.
Starting from the opening on the 27th of last month until the 12th of this month, for three weeks, every Friday and Saturday evening, the market transforms into a lively festival ground.
At 5 p.m., as the sun slowly sets, the market lights turn on one by one, filling the alleys with the aroma of charcoal, and visitors’ footsteps become busy.
This is the moment that signals the start of the ‘Sutbul Eorak’ night market.
Inside the market, you can see about 30 different kinds of fish being grilled golden brown over charcoal.
Fresh fish caught from the Goheung coastal waters, such as cuttlefish, pollock, flatfish, and croaker, are carefully grilled to captivate visitors’ taste buds.
This charcoal-grilled fish is the pride of Goheung traditional market and the main attraction of the ‘Sutbul Eorak’ night market.
The recently renovated market through the ‘Sikkeulbeokjeok Project’ is also impressive.
The parking lot, capable of accommodating five large buses and 42 passenger cars, greatly enhances visitor convenience, and a specialized restaurant remodeled from empty jangdok (fermentation jars) has been created as a space where visitors can enjoy charcoal-grilled fish more comfortably.
Goheung County (Governor Gong Young-min) aims to develop the traditional market into a tourist attraction through these changes.
They plan to attract more tourists by branding the charcoal-grilled fish, and revitalizing specialized restaurants and food courts.
Additionally, for group tourists of 20 or more Koreans and 10 or more foreigners, a support of 15,000 KRW per person is provided upon proof of visiting the traditional market.
At this place where Goheung traditional market, with its 100 years of history, has transformed into a new look, how about fully experiencing the taste and warmth of Goheung filled with the scent of charcoal?
