A woman in her 50s from Ireland confessed that she experienced side effects after undergoing surgery to remove fat under her eyes.

On the 7th (local time), according to the British media outlet 'The Sun,' Anita Brothers (51) had surgery to remove fat under her eyes in Turkey to celebrate her birthday. Brothers explained to the media, "I turned 50 and wanted to gain confidence, so I decided to get rid of the bulging fat under my eyes." At first, she thought the surgery was successful.

However, after a few days, the skin under her eyes gradually sagged, and her lower eyelids began to show. Brothers said, "I immediately went back to Turkey for a revision surgery, but the lower eyelids sagged again," adding, "The surgery was supposed to make me look prettier, but instead, my eyes changed strangely. They looked like a Basset Hound (a dog breed known for droopy eyes)." She also expressed, "I looked hideous at the time. Because of my appearance, I couldn't attend family events or even my 50th birthday, which was very upsetting."

Under extreme stress, Brothers underwent another revision surgery in Canada a year later. The surgery was successful, but she spent over 10,000 euros (approximately 14.8 million KRW) on surgery fees, airfare, and other expenses. Brothers said, "The Turkish hospital offered 2,400 euros (about 3.55 million KRW) as compensation," calling it an "insult." She added, "The amount the hospital proposed doesn't even cover half of what I spent," expressing anger, "What they offered is an insult." She emphasized, "The surgeon in charge did not take proper responsibility. I hope no one else suffers like I did."

Meanwhile, surgery to remove fat under the eyes has become famous as an 'anti-aging surgery,' leading to an increase in patients visiting hospitals for the procedure. This is because restoring the bulging fat under the eyes caused by aging can help regain a youthful-looking face. However, as in Brothers' case, many patients suffer from side effects. Therefore, it is important to decide on surgery after thorough consultation with an experienced specialist. Since a poorly done surgery is often difficult to correct even with revision surgery, patients themselves need to actively research the surgery and learn about the procedures offered by various hospitals before undergoing surgery.
